Fellow membership is among the highest distinctions conferred by The Masonry Society. It is reserved for individuals who have made significant and sustained contributions to the advancement of masonry knowledge, professional practice, education, research, or service to The Masonry Society.

Individuals selected as Fellow Members are formally recognized at a TMS Annual Meeting and are entitled to use the post-nominal designation FTMS in professional contexts.

FTMS

Fellow of The Masonry Society

An honorific that may be used in professional correspondence, publications, and credentials following formal recognition.

Eligibility

Knowledge

Advancing masonry science through shared expertise.

Professional Practice

Excellence in design, engineering, or construction of masonry projects.

Education

Mentoring the next generation of masonry professionals.

Research

Academic work that advances the understanding of masonry materials, behavior, and design.

Service to TMS

Leadership and active participation in committees, governance, and the work of the Society.

Years

Eligible nominees must have maintained continuous membership in The Masonry Society for at least ten consecutive years and have demonstrated meaningful contributions to masonry knowledge, professional practice, education, research, or service to TMS.

Nomination & Review Process

  • Review the Nomination Procedures (PDF)
  • Confirm eligibility by checking the Eligible Members List (PDF)
  • Prepare supporting materials (nomination letter, nominee)
  • Nominations should include at least 5 letters of endorsement
  • Submit the Nomination Form as a full package
  • Or allow endorsers to submit their letters separately

Review Process

  1. The Awards Committee reviews the nominations and prepares a summary for the Board of Directors
  2. The Board of Directors considers the recommendations and votes through a confidential ballot.
    • Approval requires no more than two dissenting votes
  3. Individuals who are elected to Fellow Member status are notified and invited to be recognized at the next annual meeting.
