Bio/Firm Description: David L. Pierson is a Structural Engineer at ARW Engineers in Ogden, Utah. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Utah State University with a B.S. in 1988 and an M.S. in 1989. In 1988 he was honored both as Outstanding Senior in the Civil Engineering Department, and as Valedictorian of the College of Engineering.
After Graduation, he began his career at SB&O in San Diego, California, where he worked as a Design Engineer until December of 1991. He then returned to Utah, joining ARW as a Project Engineer. He has remained at ARW since, being advanced to Principal in 1998, and to Vice-President in 2000.
Mr. Pierson is actively involved in his profession. He has served on the Board of Directors for The Masonry Society since 2015 and is currently the Vice-Chair of the TMS 402/602 Committee, which develops and maintains the Masonry Design Code provisions for the Building Code. He is a Past-President of the Structural Engineers Association of Utah, and now serves as Legislative Committee Chair for SEAU. He served for 8 years on the Utah Uniform Building Codes Commission and was Chair of that Commission for 3 years. He is an Adjunct Professor at Utah State University, where he teaches Wood and Masonry Design.
In 2020, Mr. Pierson was recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus in the Department of Civil Engineering at Utah State University. Also in 2020, he was recognized by the Utah Engineers Council as the Engineer of the Year in the State of Utah.
