Jason Thompson was presented with the 2024 Haller Award at The Masonry Society’s Annual Meeting on October 17, 2024 in Portland, Maine.
The Haller Award is given to an individual engineer or an engineering firm that has enhanced the knowledge of masonry in practice. This award recognizes the beauty, elegance, and economy of structural masonry projects.
Mr. Thompson is widely recognized for his expertise and many contributions in masonry design throughout his career. As a student, his research on lap splices in CMU led to significant improvements in safety and performance of reinforced masonry. Since joining the TMS 402/602 Committee in 2002, he has been a noteworthy contributor to the development of multiple editions of the standard.
He has served in many organizations, including: TMS, ASTM, ACI, MACS, ASCE, ICC, and more. Especially useful is his deep procedural knowledge, which has also been indispensable in developing many other new committees.
He has proven to be very valuable to the masonry profession by helping engineers to become better engineers when designing with masonry.
