TMS 302-26 Sound Standard Public Comment Period

The Masonry Society is soliciting public comments on proposed changes to TMS 302 Standard Method for Determining Sound Transmission Ratings for Masonry Assemblies. This document has been updated from the previous 2018 edition by the Design Practices Committee.

In accordance with TMS standardization procedures, a 45-day public comment period is required before the document can be finalized as a TMS standard.

What is included in the document?

TMS 302 consists of two components:

  • Mandatory-language Code provisions, which establish the requirements
  • Non-mandatory Commentary, which explains the intent and technical basis behind those requirements

Who can comment?

Anyone with a technical interest in the document is encouraged to submit comments.

What should comments address?

  • Comments should be directed at the technical content of the document, including code provisions, commentary, tables, figures, and equations.
  • Comments should be specific and clearly identify the section or provision being addressed by page and line number. Include suggested alternative language whenever possible.
  • General expressions of support or opposition without technical basis are not actionable and may not receive a detailed response.

How are comments handled?

All comments received during the public comment period will be reviewed and formally resolved by the Design Practices Committee. The committee’s resolution of these comments will be submitted to the TMS Technical Activities Committee for review and approval. A written response will be provided to each commenter documenting the committee’s resolution of their comment.

Comment deadline

This public comment period is open from July 13, 2026 through August 27, 2026.

All comments must be submitted by August 27, 2026 at 11:59 pm ET.
