General information:

Impact echo testing works similarly to radar except it uses sound waves instead of radiation.  The students will be introduced to basics of sound wave propagation through solid materials and shown how results change over voids and dissimilarities in materials.  Using pre-made test specimens to yield desired results, the students will practice using and interpreting the results of the impact echo test equipment.  The students, after learning the basic ideas and theories behind impact echo testing, will be exposed to the actual NDE of not only masonry, but concrete bridges, slabs, and walls.
