Sustainable design and green building are ever evolving. LEED version 4, introduced in late 2013, contains significant changes in the area of Materials and Resources. Masonry expert, Christine A. Subasic, P.E., LEED A.P., will introduce attendees to sustainable design provide an overview of the LEEDTM v4 Rating System. She will address LEED v4 credit categories, with particular emphasis on the Materials and Resources credits, and identify how masonry products can contribute to sustainable design and LEED. She will also discuss the ways sustainable design goes beyond the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Rating System. This presentation will give insight on the environmental building marketplace, as well as cover criteria and considerations used in selecting masonry products for LEED projects.

Speaker Bio: Christine A. Subasic, P.E., LEED A.P., is a consulting architectural engineer specializing in masonry and sustainable design. Ms. Subasic has provided technical support services, including standards development, educational seminars, and inspection services in the masonry industry for over 25 years. A frequent speaker on sustainability and masonry, she has addressed audiences in over 20 states. She is active in ASTM Committees E60 on Sustainability and C15 on Manufactured Masonry Units, and is a member of the ASHRAE Standard 189.1 Project Committee. She is editor of The Masonry Society’s Sustainability E-Newsletter, and her work and dedication has been recognized by TMS as a recipient of the TMS President’s Award and TMS Service Award. She has written numerous articles and publications for STRUCTURE and Masonry Construction magazines and other industry associations. She is the author of the books “Six-Minute Solutions for Civil PE Exam Structural Problems” and “Six-Minute Solutions for Structural Engineering (SE) Exam Morning Breadth Problems” and co-author of the “Masonry Designers’ Guide.” Ms. Subasic received her Bachelor of Architectural Engineering Honors degree with Structural Option from the Pennsylvania State University. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and a registered professional engineer in Virginia and North Carolina.
